We’re all about the water of life, come in to any of our venues for a delicious dram from some of the best that Scotland has to offer! Our current highlights are a good mix to showcase some of the different regions of whisky and what characteristics they bring to the table.
Glenkinchie 12
Glenkinchie is celebrated as a light and delicate whisky. Matured for 12 years, the result is a light, floral whisky with a fresh, creamy taste. Glenkinchie is perfect as an aperitif Single Malt or at the start of a meal due to its fragrant, light and appetising body and taste.
Nose: Very aromatic and flowery overall, like breathing in a country garden. Noticeable vanilla, cut flowers (daffodil, blossom and hints of lily) and beneath these, a clean, toasty note. Becomes increasingly sweet and creamy, with a lightly aromatic edge and fresh citrus, which all brings to mind lemon cheesecake. Water makes it still more creamy and scented.
Body: Light, smooth.
Palate: A sweet soft start, like crême anglaise, soon becoming flowery again. A really smooth delivery, especially after adding a drop of water. The mid-palate is crisp and then the flavour settles into a tightly focused bundle of butter icing, lemon cheesecake and freesias.
Finish: Herbal and drying, a little like potpourri.
Talisker 10
Produced at the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye, Talisker Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been made by the sea since 1830. This single malt has a famously rich and powerful peat-smoke flavour, while the finish leaves you with a warm peppery taste at the back of the mouth.
Nose: Powerful peat-smoke with just a hint of the sea-water salt of fresh oysters, with a citrus sweetness.
Body: Full and rich.
Palate: A rich dried-fruit sweetness, clouds of smoke, strong barley-malt flavours, warming and intense. Peppery at the back of the mouth.
Finish: Huge, long, warming and peppery in the finish with an appetizing sweetness.
Singleton 12
The Singleton of Dufftown has an aroma of roasted nuts with rich fruit, with notes of blackcurrant, brown sugar and coffee on the palate – before an elegantly drying and crisp finish. The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old has the right flavor profile for malt whisky novices due to its smooth, rich and approachable taste.
Nose: Approachable and rich. First polished wood and nuts (toasted hazelnut) dominate, then stewed fruits (baked apples), dried fruits (sweet dates), and soft brown sugar take over. Mossy too, after a while. With water, a sweeter, more direct Speyside character develops (pure pear drops!). Clean and dense. After a while, warm, dry, aromas, of pencil shavings or match-sticks.
Body: Medium to full bodied.
Palate: Sweetness and crunchy nuts impress at first, then there’s a smooth, fruity Speyside richness to enjoy. Firm, with a balancing sweetness. Brown sugar and espresso coffee. Warming and pleasant. With water, still a pleasant texture. Light sweetness, then chewy and balanced by light acidity, with a good spread of flavours mid-palate.
Finish: Medium to long, elegantly drying and crisp, completed by a pleasant, sweetly nutty chew-ability.
Sláinte!
