Live Music Matters!
2018’s Edinburgh International Festival is well underway and we have live music on in 5 venues across Edinburgh’s Old Town.
This weekend at Stramash the Daily Ceilidh on Friday 10th August welcomes the Free Range Ceilidh Band from 15:00 – 18:00. After that Celtic hoe-down, it’s time for some Blues and Rock’n’Roll from the highly-acclaimed Black Cat Bone from 19:00 – 21:00. At 21:30 – DENNIS, a roots, folk-rock & brass band will captivate as they have audiences across the country. It’s then time for another Ceilidh as Tweed Ceilidh Band take to the stage at 00:30. They are an exciting ceilidh band from Inverness and Speyside with lively Ska rhythms and a Bluegrass vibe that’s seen them tour all over Europe!
Whistle Binkies have live music from 21:45 on Friday starting with a 5 piece band who play all over the UK at Americana/Blues/Country/Rockabilly & Folk Festivals – Cow Cow Boogie!
On Saturday 11th August at Whistle Binkies the live music begins at 19:00 with Blues Rockers The Houserockers until 21:00. At strong>21:45 strong>Size Queen play classic rock covers – from dancy 70’s AOR cheese to grinding 80’s metal. With balls to the wall vocals from their amazing singer, Mercy. At 00.30 13 Fridays are a four piece covers band playing a wide range of songs from bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Moloko, Amy Winehouse, Blondie, Queens of the Stone Age and many more.
On Saturday at Stramash the Daily Ceilidh begins at 15:00 with Awry Ceilidh Band. Birthed from the verdant belly of The Forest Arts Collective in Edinburgh on Samhain Eve in 2010, Awry quickly became known for a very specific and audacious behaviour known as the ‘PSYCHEGAELIC ceilidh’. Safehouse are live from 19:00 – 21:00 a Blues Rock, Psychedelic, and more recently, Southern Rock specialists. Supa N Da Kryptonites soulful female vocals, London-born Rapping frontman Supa, and a ska & swing influenced 3 piece horn section with a blues rhythm section make up this unconventional octet. Linden Boulevard play after at 01:30. They are a Scottish Hip Hop with New York City roots! Experience the 7 piece hip-hop funk explosion with Frontman Stevie Creed!
There is also live music from acoustic acts, ska, indie, motown and more! We are certain there is something to suit everyone and all tastes.
We encourage local musicians, whether solo acts, duos or bands every night at George IV Bar, The Royal Mile Tavern, and Fiddler’s Arms. Playing a mix of music from every era, as well as their own material. It’s all about having a good time and enjoying the atmosphere – singing along and requests welcome!
