The Edinburgh Festival 2018 had landed.
It’s that amazing time of year again when all the world descends onto our beautiful city. Coveted by the rest of the world, it has more of a marmite effect on Edinburgh locals. This year we are embracing the madness and throwing ourselves in full force. We are so keen, we even started a day early in the mighty Stramash last night with a legendary show by the Peatbog Faeries and rounding off the night with the first of our weekly late-night roller discos’ in La Belle. (No revellers were harmed/ankles broken)
There is far too much going on to list it all here, but we will do our very best to bring you our top tips and inside knowledge about whats HOT and whats absolutely not over the next few weeks.
A full day rollicking around the city requires a full stomach. The Royal Mile Tavern, George IV Bar, Fiddlers Arms & Villager are ready for you. Perfectly positioned across the Old Town for a refuelling pit stop, the staff have ALL the inside info you need to get the most out of your day. I would highly recommend leaving space for a deep-fried Mars Bar – you will have burnt off all the calories in the walk between just 2 shows, so it would be rude not too!
After sitting through a few show’s it’s good to get the circulation going so Stramash is the perfect place to get your blood pumping. Host’s to the Daily Ceilidh (from 3pm on Friday & Saturday and 6.30pm Sunday to Thursday) – there is a caller to guide you through the all the dances and you will be a pro in no time! Their listings poster is so full of incredible music we needed a bigger bit of paper this year so check their listings – open every day until 5am it’s easy to lose a few hours/days here.
Stramash brings you a daily fix of bouncing Ceilidh action all though August – bring your dancing shoes!
PBH are bringing the free comedy to The Globe, Whistle Binkies, Subway Cowgate and Opium every day until the 25th August – drop into Binkies from 11am to pick up a jam-packed programme.
Just the Tonic are bringing the giggles to The Mash House and La Belle every day from 11am til 11pm, drop by the La Belle garden for a sherry and peruse their glossy brochure for full listings.
After the performers wring out the last chuckle we wing the seats away, quick smart and the party keeps on until way past normal bed times. The Globe busting out the Karaoke, Binkies bouncing more bands than a Glastonbury poster, Subway Cowgate churning out party tunes like there is no tomorrow and Opium rocking so hard we had to warn our neighbours in advance.
Same goes for La Belle and Mash House, chairs stacked, tunes on! Roller Disco’s, Disney Parties, Techno tastic and more sweaty drum and bass than you can shake a stick at.
See you on the roller rink!
After all this (in just week one) I will be requiring a spot of calm. Found in newly refurbished Bar Salsa! Cocktails that won’t break the bank, Kopparberg slushies to cool you down and not a magician in sight.
